Who should not do colon hydrotherapy/colonics

Colon Hydrotherapy Screening Process & Informed Consent


At Selah Cleansing Arts, we prioritize your safety and well-being. Professionally administered colon hydrotherapy is generally safe for most individuals, but it’s important to consult your doctor if you have any health concerns prior to scheduling with us.


You may NOT be a candidate for colon hydrotherapy/colonics if you are currently diagnosed with any of the following:


Contraindications / Conditions Requiring Caution or Medical Clearance


  • Anal fissure or fistula — tear in the colon
  • Anemia — severe
  • Aneurysm
  • Cardiac disease — severe, including uncontrolled hypertension or congestive heart failure
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Colitis — acute
  • Colon cancer
  • Colon surgery — less than 12 months post-op requires a doctor’s referral
  • Colostomy
  • Crohn’s disease — acute inflammatory, bleeding, or active flare stage
  • Diverticulitis — active flare
  • Gastrointestinal hemorrhage or perforation — current, or history of (requires doctor’s referral)
  • Hemorrhoids — severely inflamed, severely bleeding, or depending on history/location
  • Hernia — abdominal or inguinal; depends on location
  • Intracranial hypertension
  • Kidney dialysis
  • Lupus
  • Organic heart valve disease
  • Pregnancy — depending upon trimester, or as otherwise directed by a physician
  • Rectal bleeding — other than minor hemorrhoids
  • Rectal or intestinal tumors
  • Renal insufficiency
  • Tumor — in the rectum or large intestine
  • Ulcerative colitis — active or bleeding
  • Water fasting — currently (may require a doctor's referral)
